Voi Safari Lodge, Tsavo East National park

Voi Safari Lodge is a 3-star mid-range accommodation facility located in the Voi rocky hills area in Tsavo East National Park. Tsavo East National Park is the largest game park in Kenya located about 160 kilometres from Mombasa and one of the best affordable lodges within the National Park. The lodge is 5 to 6 hours from Nairobi if you are driving and an hour and a half if you fly from Nairobi to the nearest airstrip where a safari vehicle will drive you to the lodge within 30 minutes. Voi lodge is the perfect African bush lodge convenient for both pleasure and business deals with herds of animals roaming beneath the African lodge. The lodge is surrounded by various tourist attractions some of which include Lugard’s Falls, Kanderi swamp, Yatta plateau and Mudanda rock.

Accommodation at Voi Safari Lodge      

The lodge has rooms categorized into singles, doubles twin and triple rooms and the cost varies depending on the type of room and its size. A room roughly costs $200 per person per night although the rates keep on changing depending on the season and management reasons.

Voi safari lodge has a total of 53 comfortable en-suite rooms that were constructed using African natural raw materials with grass-thatched rooms, wood, and a view of the National Park. All 53 rooms are well-furnished with an en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower and bathtub (with cold and hot water), flushing toilet, fire extinguishers, complimentary bottled water, satellites, sitting areas, mosquito nets, private verandas, satellite TVs, chairs and private balconies. 

The rooms are also well-equipped with wooden ceilings, king and queen-sized comfortable beds, full length windows, and a work desk and can accommodate a maximum of 125 guests. Voi is open to all ages including children and to get better deals, and we advise that you book in advance to get better deals.

Activities at Voi Safari Lodge, Tsavo East

Game drives: Two game drives are offered at the lodge per day around the National Park which enables you to see the different animal and bird species including lions, cheetahs, hippos, zebras, rhinos, giraffes, hyenas and over 500 recorded bird species including hornbills, weaver birds, and ostriches among others. The best time to go for game drives in Tsavo East is during the dry season (June to October) when the animals can easily be seen.

Horse riding: this comes at an extra cost and is one of the activities offered at the camp. Guests get closer to nature as they ride next to the animals within the Park. A professional guide will be available to guide you through the Park and we advise that you at least try to have prior experience with riding before you book one.

Bush dinners: These can easily be arranged by the camp by well-trained chefs with prior information to the restaurant. These can be made into different options including picnics, bush breakfasts and lunches.

Bird watching: Tsavo East has about 500 recorded bird species some of which are migratory birds present from November to April. Some of the bird species here include the golden-breasted starling, ostriches, vulturine guineafowl, African finfoot, Pangani longclaw, Shelley’s starling, Golden pit, lesser kestrel and martial eagles among others.

Hot air balloon rides: balloon rides are one of the other ways in which tourists get to explore the Tsavo East National Park offered at the lodge. Ride above the savannah plains where you have views of the animals below, costs $450 (tentatively) and you get to enjoy a bush breakfast and champagne afterwards.

Guided nature walks, visits to the Seronera River, enjoy camping safaris, cultural visits to the villages, Olduvai Gorge, farms and Moru Kopjes among others.
