This is the luxury accommodation facility that is located right in the middle of Tsavo West National Park. It is strategically located near the main entrance of Tsavo West which is Mtito. Kilaguni offers luxurious and comfortable accommodation to guests visiting Tsavo West and can be reached by either road or air transport. It is approximately an hour’s flight from Nairobi to the nearest local airstrip and 30 minutes’ drive to the main gate. Driving from Nairobi to the lodge is about 4 to 5 hours. The lodge is under the management of the Serena hotels which owns property around East Africa and other countries.
The Kilaguni Serena safari lodge was one of the first establishments in Tsavo West National Park and offers the majority of accommodation at the National Park. Its precise location makes it a good poacher’s lookout. It was constructed facing the volcanic stones and the valley which in local dialect is commonly known as ‘the place of the young rhino’ overlooking the watering hole where animals gather including lions, elephants, zebras, buffalos, cheetahs, giraffes and several bird species.
Accommodation at Kilaguni Serena Lodge
Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge has a total of 56 en-suite rooms, 5 of which are found in a storeyed building and decorated with volcanic stones. The guest rooms at the lodge overlook the waterhole where many animals including elephants gather for drinking water and to cool off during the dry season. They are spacious and come in different categories including triple, suites, double rooms and the Kilaguni suite.
Double rooms at the Kilaguni are highly decorated with a touch of both modern and traditional African decorations. With the warm ambience in the rooms, the facilities here include an en-suite bathroom decorated with penhaligon’s bath and all the amenities that come with it, wireless internet, a private balcony, coffee and tea making facilities, chairs and 24-hour room service.
The Kilaguni suite is located in the suites building and is the most luxurious room at the lodge. It has clear and great views of the Chyulu hills and the watering hole. The different in-room amenities include a private balcony, master bedroom with king-sized beds, satellite flat screen TV, well-stocked mini-bar, 24-hour room service, wireless internet, en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower and bath, dining table both interior and exterior, in-room catering service, private entrance, coffee and tea making facilities, housekeeping and room steward services.
Suites: Kilaguni has 5 suites that have views of the watering hole and the Chyulu hills. Amenities within the suites at the lodge include 24-hour room service, a master bedroom furnished with a king-sized bed, satellite flat screen TVs, WIFI, coffee and tea making facilities, well-stocked mini-bar, in-room services for example bar and catering services, private balconies, sitting room, interior and exterior dining area, en-suite bathroom with bath and shower, and a big terrace.
A triple room at Kilaguni Serena Lodge is well decorated with an African touch and the facilities here include complimentary bottled water, an en-suite bathroom with all the necessary amenities, WIFI for easy communication to families and friends back home, a private balcony with great views, 24-hour room service and coffee and tea making facilities.
Activities available at Kilaguni Serena Lodge
The different complementary activities that are carried out at the lodge include night game drives conducted in a 4×4 safari vehicle with experienced guides, guided nature walks where guests get to see the flora and fauna close hand, bird watching walks with numerous birds can be seen during the walk and spotting the smaller animals that might be missed during the game drive and enjoying sundowners and bush meals that you can enjoy with the great scenery around you. The above mentioned activities come at an extra cost.
Other activities that are offered at the lodge include Swahili lessons, basket weaving, aerobics, day game drives (two times a day that is morning and late afternoon), cooking lessons, bike riding and photo safaris.

How to get to Kilaguni Serena lodge
The lodge is 280 kilometres from Nairobi and there are three ways in which tourists can get to the lodge that is railway, road and air transport. Guests using the railway line will stop at the Mtito Andei Railway station which is 30 kilometres from the lodge, flights can chatter to the nearest airstrip where a guide will be waiting to take you to the lodge in a safari vehicle and lastly, driving from Nairobi is more scenic.
Facilities at the Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge
Library: The library at the lodge is fully stocked with several African-themed books with lots of legendary stories that will keep you entertained throughout your safari. The books are available to all guests at the lodge and is open throughout the day.
Bar: a well-stocked bar is available at the lodge and this is located in a strategic area overlooking the watering hole. The rock built bar serves both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks including international beers, wines, spirits, whiskeys and cocktails. This is the perfect place to relax and unwind after the day’s activities.
Children services: Kilaguni offers baby services to all their guests and these include children’s menu and dining, babysitting services and the family rooms have children’s beds.
Dining: The meals prepared at the lodge including both the local and international cuisines prepared by trained and experienced chefs are served in the dining area. The central dining area has views of the watering hole, and meals served include breakfasts, lunch and dinner with bush meals and sundowners served as well.
Other facilities and services at the lodge include free parking which is large and can accommodate a large number of vehicles, the Health and Fitness Centers that offer services like a spa with services like pedicures, manicures, massages and facials, the lodge offers a 24-hour medical service in case of an emergency, a gift shop selling art crafts from the local community like shoes, bags, clothes, jewelry, a garden swimming pool which is an ideal place to cool off and relax and a conference Centre that offers standard space for conferences and meetings and is facilitated with projectors, wireless internet, tables, chairs, writing materials and boards.
