Satao Camp is a mid-range accommodation facility that is situated amidst trees and a waterhole where guests can easily view the wildlife that converges to cool off from the heat. It is convenient for tourists who love good and comfortable lodgings at an affordable cost and its strategic location near a waterhole makes it the perfect place for guests looking at getting a glimpse of all the wildlife species in the National Park.
The camp is about 160 kilometres and 326 kilometres from Mombasa and Nairobi respectively. you can either drive or fly to the camp, driving will take about 5 hours whereas flying is an hour to the airstrip in Voi where you will be transferred in a safari vehicle to the camp within a few minutes. The Satao cap is under the management of the Southern Cross safaris located in Mombasa. Amenities at Satao Camp
Well-stocked bar: There are a variety of drinks that are served at the bar both alcoholic and non-alcoholic including spirits, whiskeys, bottled drinking water, sodas, beers and cocktails. Sit at the bar and relax at the bar that has a relaxing view of the waterhole and the surrounding areas around the camp.
Laundry services are also available including free parking space, and WIFI to help you easily communicate with your friends and family back home, cell phone reception is always a problem so be ready for this, they also offer honeymoon services, airport pickups and drop-offs and comfortable beddings.

The craft shop at the camp has several items for sale including safari essentials, African gift styles like shoes, bags, jewellery, and other crafts.

The restaurant is found in the main building serving different meals from a continental breakfast, and lunch to dinner, picnics and bush meals are also served as per request. Meals that are served are both local and international cuisines prepared by well-trained chefs and the staff at the camp are always available to help with the different needs of the guests.
A campfire: The camp has a daily campfire that not only keeps guests warm but also a place where guests get to relax as they unwind at the end of the day.
Activities available at the Satao Camp
The camp offers a variety of activities to its guests and some of these include the following:
Sundowners: There is no better way to end your safari day than enjoying sundowners in Tsavo East National Park. After a long day carrying out the different safari activities, our guide will take you to the best sundowner spot to relax around a fire with a drink in your hand. Watch the sunset with fellow tourists and for tourists who are into photography, this is considered to be the best time for a photo safari because of the good lighting.
Game drives: Satao Camp offers two game drives per day throughout the day which is a morning and afternoon drive and if you are looking at catching a glimpse of the big five during the drive, then you will not be disappointed. The camp has qualified guides and their understanding of good wildlife viewing in a 4×4 safari vehicle equipped with everything that is needed for a safari drive including binoculars, chilled drinks and guidebooks.
Other attractions: There are other safari attractions near the camp that you can visit and these are the Lugard Falls perfect for picnics, the Galana River, and Mundana rock which is a water catchment and a natural supplier to the dam. It also acts as a great wildlife spot in the national park.
Birding: over 300 bird species have been identified around the Satao Camp including migratory birds. Walking around the camp is super safe and easy for birders with many around the waterhole and some that you need to look out for include guinea fowls, barbets, hornbills, and starlings among others.
Accommodation at Satao Camp, Tsavo East

Satao boasts of 20 en-suite authentic tents 4 of which are suites and 16 are tents. They are all uniquely designed with an African touch, are extremely large and can fitted in with extra beds, although the suites are larger and strategically located near the waterhole. The 20 rooms at the camp are well-furnished and decorated with wooden fans, verandas, en-suite bathrooms with flushing toilets, baths and showers with cold and hot running water, private balconies, and the tents have a sitting area, mosquito nets, free complimentary drinking bottled water, hair dryers and fire extinguishers.
The rates of the different rooms at the camp differ and can change at any time depending on the travel season and the size of the room booked. The types of rooms include triples, doubles and singles and the starting rate can be as low as $200 but can double or triple, especially during the peak season-June to October.
Food and drinks at Satao Camp, Tsavo East
Both local and international cuisines are served at the restaurant with three meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is usually served after the morning drive, lunch is served under a Tamarind tree that is believed to be over 200 years with views of the roaming elephants at the waterhole, whereas dinner is served in the restaurant and a night cup is served around a campfire after dinner. Private and bush meals are available but only if you communicate in advance. Note that the ingredients used in preparing all the meals are fresh from the gardens. Guests with dietary requirements need to let us know in advance during the booking process so that the chef ensures that you are well taken care of.
Satao Camp Rates
All the room rates at Satao Camp are in Kenyan shillings for full board accommodation per person per night. Every rate irrelevant to the low or peak season does not include National Park fees. They have a children’s policy: children from 2 to 12 years sharing with adults pay 50% of the PPS and 0 to 1.9 years sharing with adults is free. In Kenyan shillings, the rate ranges between KES 7760 to KES 16320 or more.
